The Grand Master BLH is our absolute finest. The Grand Master is made with a non-woven fabric (不織布) core , covered with an outer layer of special high grade silk. Available in standard and extra width. For EXTRA WIDTH belts choose one size longer so that the embroidery will not be lost in the knot when tied. The Grand Master is designed to last and wear down slowly giving it a time honored feel.
Custom Embroidery
Tokaido Japan provides the highest quality embroidery in Japanese or English. No company can surpass the level of embroidery perfected by Tokaido.
The secret in the manufacturing of our belts is that the parts are cut and embroidered separately before being assembled and sewn together. This is the reason why they are so strong, neat and beautifully finished. The embroidery will not show through on the reverse side. This is the hallmark of a true, Made in Japan - Tokaido Black Belt.
In TOKAIDO’s continuing commitment to quality and customer service we have decided to add 3 font options for our black belt embroidery. Below from left to right we are offering:
Left Choice 昇龍 translated as “Rising Dragon”. (Default font)
Middle Choice 太行書 translated as “Bold Cursive”.
Right Choice 龍神 translated as “Dragon God”.
Each kanji font has it’s own character with the Left Choice described as crisp and clear, the Middle Choice characterized as strong and bold, and the Right Choice as sophisticated and detailed. TOKAIDO is happy to provide this choice and we hope you will appreciate these new options.
Please note: the Left Choice 昇龍 “Rising Dragon” is the default font and will be used if neither of the other two are chosen.
You may choose to embroider your style name and/or your personal name. For Japanese text, please select from the pop up menus by clicking on the Kanji Style Names or the Names in Japanese Katakana below the field that you desire. If your Style or Name is not in the menu then use this Google Translate link https://translate.google.com/#en/ja/ to CREATE and then COPY and PASTE into the field(s) you desire. We will confirm that the translation is correct before production. If you prefer English/Roman letters, then type directly in the field(s) of your choice.
Production Time
As with all kuruoobi that are made in Japan by Tokaido Japan, each uniform is made as it is ordered. This way we can ensure that you receive the best belt possible. Currently un-embroidered belts require 3 weeks and embroidered belts require 6 weeks.

Top quality product

I have been ordering heavy weight gis and belts from Tokaido Japan for well over 20 years, always satisfied with the products.
One of my students is going to university to study engineering, on July 17th I ordered an embroidered silk black belt for him as a gift, as always Dan had been extremely helpful, even after the order was ready for production I was still able to change the kanji calligraphy. I live in Toronto, Canada, the belt arrived in four weeks, that was fast.

Dan bars in wrong place

I have always purchased Tokaido products for over 30 years now. I recently ordered a new silk embroidered black belt and am disappointed to say that when the belt was delivered the dan grade bars I asked to be put on the belt have been placed not at the end of the belt but before the embroidery closer to the middle of the belt instead of at the end. When I queried was told that it was my fault and would only replace with a discount of 30% buying a new one. Be very careful when you order! I would suggest that a digital image of how the belt will appear is added to the order process, prior to making the belt to avoid these things. I and my Dan grade students will not be purchasing from Tokaido going forward. Its a shame as have always thought their products the best previously but product and service have not met my expectations this time.

Dear Mr. Lacey,
We are sorry to see you go and regret that you feel treated unfairly. When you placed your order you chose to put the Xs for Dan Bars in front of your name and not after. It seems clear that since the bars were placed in front that that is where you wanted them embroidered. You even sent us a message in the Notes section to remind us " XXXXXX represents 6 Dan grade stripes (I obviously don't want 6 x's on the belt - thanks) ” but did not mention anything about placement. You are correct that customers should be careful when ordering and if they have any questions they should message through their account or email us. Customers can see clearly on the invoice exactly how the belt will be embroidered to confirm their choices. Of course we understood that you were not satisfied so we offered our largest discount for a remake which you refused. We wish you the best of luck in your future. Kind regards, TOKAIDO

Review of Grandmaster belt

Received the belt, and am very pleased. The material is high quality. Especially pleased with the embroidery; have wanted a belt with metallic silver kanji for a long time, and was pleased to see that Tokaido has started using this type of thread. Style of the kanji has changed, but I like this style compared to previous versions.

Awesome Custom Black Belt

I ordered the custom satin black belt extra wide, selected my affiliation and uploaded the katakana of my name. The web site was excellent and very well done. The exception would be the photo size of about 100k is unusually small, but it worked by selecting low res in an email from my iPhone. The customer service was excellent -- I've been loosing weight and my belt size changed. I communicated the change in the web order and got an email and updated order status the next day. The product came yesterday to the US via FedEx, after only about a month. Its truly excellent and very high quality. I have a custom Tokaido belt thats about 20 years old -- this one is better as the kanji/katakana are larger and I like the satin vs the cotton of my old belt.

Worth the price, however it would be nice if it came with a presentation box. Had trouble with the delivery as It wasn't Fedex and It took a lot more than it should.

A beautiful belt

The belt is beautiful. It is made of high quality and the embroidery is precisely as I ordered and expected.
How ever I would have expected that the belt would be send in a small box, given the price and not just in a plastic wrap. This is a high quality belt with a high price, not a yellow belt that you buy at the local sports shop.
Delivery was made by Fedex, which has also a very good reputation, and in my case lived up to it.
All in all, I am satisfied, and recommend purchasing your belt at Tokaido

The belt was made to order and delivered to the UK within 5 weeks.
It does look and feel like a beautifully finished quality product, with skillfully embroidered kanji and katakana.
I guess time will tell how it will age.
